About this business
Redhouse studio is a firm that practices fully integrated architecture that operates an assembly line from research to innovation, design to fabrication, building commissioning to retrofits. Our resources are split between research and architecture, which allows us to be a part of every single aspect of the project. We collaborate with our clients as partners in innovative and sustainable solutions, shadowing a project from proposal to completion.
Chris is an educator, researcher, and architect who believes in the transformative power of architecture. He has been dedicated to studying and teaching bio-material-based building processes at Kent State University since leaving MIT’s Center for Biologically Inspired Design. As an architect and human rights activist, Christopher has lived in New York City and Anchorage as well as Firenze and Kigali. Christopher served as a director in New York at studioMDA, which was founded by Markus Dochantschi. He is the protege of Zaha Hadid who won the Pritzker Prize. Christopher served as director at MASS Design Group in Africa, where he created and managed many humanitarian projects, including those for Madonna, Partners in Health, and the UN Millennium Village Project. He was also a member of the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation and Noella Coursaris.
Chris is an academic who has brought the principles of humanitarian architecture to Kent State University. His program, design for the developing world, was created by Chris. It teams up with Malawi Polytechnic University to offer a year-long series of studios that challenge students and broaden their horizons. His students learned how to utilize their skills as designers and make an impact in developing countries, and in their own country. Christopher has found that working in low-resource environments inspired him to use the build process to maximize his positive impacts. He is currently collaborating with MIT and NASA researchers to create and promote bio-materials. ok
