ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

The Verne collection of Japanese contemporary prints and paintings was founded in 1953 at the start of my parent's two-year stay in Japan. We focused on ukiyo–e (floating globe prints) as the collection expanded to include works by well-known and esteemed Japanese artists. It also features work by Kunisada and Yoshitoshi and other respectable Japanese printmakers from the 18th to the 19th century, as well as sosaku hanga and contemporary Japanese prints through the efforts of Norman Tolman and Frances Blakemore. We acquired artists such as Koshiro Onchi, Shiko Munakata, Umetaro Azechi, Ryohei Tanaka, Katsunori Hamanishi, and Toko Shinoda in the 1960s. The collection would exhibit a significant portion of American and European art, including Ito Shinsui and Hiroshi Yashida, in the 1980s, nearly a hundred years after Western artists like Bertha Lum and Helen Hyde. The Verne Collection would be the most important gallery in Japan for current Western artists, and Clifton Karhu and Daniel Kelly would be among the most prominent Japanese printmakers and painters. The Verne Collection has shown at the most significant art shows in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The Verne Collection is located in Little Italy, Cleveland, Ohio, just minutes away from the Cleveland Museum of Art.

SUMMARY   Reviews Summary

The Verne Collection is a cozy and welcoming place with a multitude of eclectic pieces, mainly from Japan. \n Clients describe the staff, especially Michael, as knowledgeable and friendly but not pushy and willing to provide information without pressure. Several reviews recommend visiting the gallery because it is a perfect place to get introduced to Japanese art and its various styles, with both new and experienced customers are able to enjoy the experience. Some customers liked the welcoming environment, and might have spent enough time to interact with Michael, Bielenda the azar or Taylor and socialize about art. Since the reviews are uniformly positive, it seems likely that most visitors will appreciate the experience. People who are interested in Japanese art and appreciate an unassuming atmosphere will undoubtedly have a good time at this gallery. Long story short, This gallery sounds like an ideal place to spend an afternoon in good company and enjoy some art shopping.
