Customer Feedback Summary: 1. Nico and the Lower team were incredibly professional, responsive, and helpful. They lived up to the Lower name with competitive rates. Highly recommend and will use them again in a heartbeat.2. I would strongly recommend against considering Lower Mortgage and encourage you to shop around before you trust them with something as important as a home purchase.
After my recent experience with Lower Mortgage, I can confidently say that it was one of the worst customer service and lending experiences I have faced, hands down. The entirety of the process felt non-transparent and nothing was communicated correctly from the beginning to the very end.
I received a pre-approval letter, which, in hindsight, felt as if it had no weight or value. It seemed like the pre-approval came out when they hadn't reviewed everything properly to determine if I would qualify. As a self-employed borrower, there were multiple complications that would have been problems. They would have been addressed and discussed at the pre-approval stage, not two weeks before I could close my loan.
What made it worse is that Lower had already sent me the loan disclosures. They had given me the impression that everything was moving forward toward closing. To continue through the mortgage process and get loan disclosures only to be told two weeks before closing that the loan can't be done is unacceptable. It gives the buyer the impression that the loan was progressing well, only to have the rug snatched from their feet a few feet from the finish line.
My loan officer also quit during the process, leaving a messy situation even messier. The communication was always inconsistent, and the answers were vague. I always felt that the people handling my loan did not know what was happening in my file or were not transparent with me.
I also had a chance to speak with Josh, who is a VP at the company, and his service and communication were underwhelming. For someone in his position, I would expect more accountability, urgency, and clarity. Being told that I cannot close my loan two weeks before the closing day is unacceptable. By then, you will have invested a ton of time, money, planning, and emotions, only to be told that it's all for nothing.
The whole process felt like a dirty game, and from my point of view, there were many red flags. I had the chance to speak with other highly regarded lenders, who expressed serious concerns about my experience and how the loan was handled.
I felt that they do not offer correct information and lost trust in the knowledge, communication, and professionalism of the people pricing my loan.
Do your research before committing to Lower Mortgage. Shop your loan with multiple lenders and get more opinions. Especially if you are self-employed, ensure that your income and documentation are valid before regarding the pre-approval letter as good to go.
Big headache. I should have gone to another lender from day one.3. The easiest part. I got past the hard part. All that is left is the paperwork. Shortly after the paperwork got into the picture, they denied the loan, stating that they could not verify my ID & Bank statements. A week after, he asked me to try some other company because they were not going to approve it. I decided to go with a local company that approved it. Would not find the experience challenging but custom service was poor, and the communications were not clear.
Worst Case Experience
They waited until I was at the finish line and then declared that they could not verify my ID & Financials ….
and denied my loan
I am self-employed & was provided with a 1099 and tax returns that were filed by my accountant from a W-2 that I obtained from the company.ApiModelProperty

I believe it's unprofessional to send me a closing disclosure... then the next day, deny my application. My loan officer avoided my calls and voicemails shortly after the application was denied. I had been kept waiting for the closing for so long, and he would not pick my calls about anything that I wanted to know. The company has no respect for their clients.
