Virtue Salon

Melanie founded Virtue Salon in 2010 when she was 24 years old. After a long quest for the perfect salon, she decided to start her own. The traditional salon was not for her, with its black chairs and white walls. She tried many things, but nothing stuck. She knew she did not want it until she saw her great-grandfather's barber chair back home. From that chair, Virtue Salon began.  I admire old furniture and other knick-knacks for their nostalgia and quality. My soul wanted a space that was original, dynamic, creative, innovating, and innovative. It was also something I have valued in my life, recycling and composting. This is why we would body this. When Melanie was 22, she had health issues. Her quest for natural remedies led her to veganism. She had heard of it before, but she had never tried it. After trying an all vegan diet, she felt the results. The phrase "vegan" was popping up everywhere. Even still, in ways I had not seen before. When she saw a vegan shampoo in a grocery store, she knew it was time for her salon. In 2014, we found a small space that had been a hat shop in 1920. It was a good space for many businesses for over 100 years. It was not clear if this would work, but it felt right. At this point, Melanie was a cosmetology student and an instructor, while Sarah was very supportive of the vision. She wanted to be Virtue Salon's first employee, even if her salary was just coffee. Teake, who had been Melanie's friend from another salon, was the next employee. We all still work at Virtue Salon, and we have been extremely successful, although we now work part-time because we all have families! Our team grew over the years. We were 12 people with enough reason to leave our old space and move to the new building in 2015. It was both rewarding and bitter. We have become a landmark in this neighborhood with 25 staff. We are close and make efforts to go out and travel and learn from our friends in different salons. In addition, we also host pop-up food trucks to help bring our neighborhood together. It is difficult to say what the future holds for Virtue Salon, but we do know that we have a vibrant, creative space full of motivated, inspired people who want to help each other. It has been a great experience. We plan to grow slowly to ensure that our products continue to be of the highest quality, beauty, and strength.
