Unfortunately Mr. Mackay was assigned as a public defender. He communicated that there would be one of two consequences for a driving under suspension charge never stating there was a third. He stated it was jail or a fine. Obviously the later of the two was desired and he put in the guilty plea. This was a first offense. The judge concurred and before completing the sentence he stated a year probation will be issued, “do you have anything else to say” asked the judge. Mr. Mackay says “uh uh uh no sir” while he receives our puzzled looks and was clearly caught off guard himself. I confronted him outside of the court room and told him he was not informative and I felt he did not do his job to the best of his abilities. He then threatened me that he would go change the plea resulting in the possibility of jail time. I was appalled at his attitude and unprofessionalism. Those of us less fortunate rely on a public defender to DEFEND us. I feel Mr. Mackay is lazy in his practices and sadly provides minimal defense.
