COMPANY: Schwarz Gallery Schwarz Gallery was established by Frank S. Schwarz during the 1930s in Atlantic City. Schwarz specializes in silver and furniture. The gallery shifted to Philadelphia after the Second World War, where Frank was now based. In the 1960s, Schwarz's son, Robert Schwarz, joined the company as a partner. The gallery continues to concentrate on American and European paintings into the 1970s and was eventually called the Gallery by Robert D. Schwarz Sr., his son, and Marie D. Schwarz's widow. Schwarz, Sr. has a Bachelor of Science from Dickinson College and undertook postgraduate fine arts education at University of Vienna, Barnes Foundation, and University of Vienna. For ten years, he was the curator with The Stephen Girard Collection, Philadelphia, from 1970-1980. This scholarly catalog is his documentation of this significant collection. Schwarz, Sr. has published over seventy catalogs, in conjunction with Gallery exhibitions, making the gallery an industry leader. Schwarz, Jr., joined the Gallery in 2002. He became the Gallery's third-generation president in 2004, following the death of Robert Sr. In every endeavor, the Gallery's Emphasis is on American nineteenth-century art as it moves forward.
