University of Tennessee Health Science Center

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) has a Memphis campus that opened in 1911, dedicated to pursuing only health science research and education. Seed programs in pharmacy, medicine, and dentistry grew, and new programs in nursing, health science, and graduate studies were added. These programs became colleges. The UT Graduate School of Medicine, Knoxville was founded in 1963 and became part of UT Health Science Center. The UTHSC was formed in 1974 when Chattanooga UT College of Medicine at Erlanger Health System joined the system. Memphis Core Teaching Hospitals: Six colleges, four campuses and the Health Science Center pursue basic science and translational research. UTHSC researchers can access private and government funding.
