Oral health professionals define orthodontists as individuals highly skilled in the relocation and the alignment of teeth. We at UTHSC pick four exceptional orthodontic residents each year to go through a 34-month program of advanced orthodontic training. These residents are graduates in dentistry and wish to focus entirely on orthodontics. They receive rigorous clinical, laboratory, research, and classroom instruction. The program results in a master's degree and a fellowship certificate in advanced orthodontics. They are taught how to diagnose, prevent, intercept, and correct orthodontic malocclusions. Each of the orthodontic procedures is supervised by a faculty member with over five years of clinical practice experience. Most of our faculty members are American Board of Orthodontics certified. Every patient receives personalized treatment from a single faculty member and resident doctor.
