Amarillo Dermatology founder Edward McCarthy spent most of his early life in Midland, graduating from Midland High School. The University of Texas at Austin later rewarded him a Bachelor of Arts degree in Zoology. He obtained high honors from University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston in 1999 (top 2%). Dr. McCarthy's medical school honor society was Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He was chosen from the top 15 students of his class. His final year of Medical School, he was awarded the Thomas W Freese Award for excellency in Dermatology and the L. Clark Stout, Jr. Award of excellence in Pathology. McCarthy joined The University of Texas Medical Branch for his residency and internship in Dermatology. In his final year of training, he was the chief resident. McCarthy was board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 2003. In the same year, he and his wife Dr. Rebecca McCarthy established Amarillo Dermatology after completing his residency in Medical and surgical dermatology.
