I am Joye Vanhook, and I am 91 years old. I was in an auto accident on July 3, 2026, at the intersection of Airline and McArdle in Corpus Christi, Texas. Police confirmed I was not at fault. The young man who hit me did not have insurance, had an expired license, and expired license plates! I have driven for over 70 years and have never been in an accident. I do carry collision coverage on my insurance policy. Unfortunately, I did not have “uninsured motorist” coverage. I called three well-known attorneys in Corpus Christi, Texas, to see if I could get any help in recovering any money for medical costs and the loss of my car from the young man who hit me. However, all three attorneys told me that they would love to help, but I didn’t have a case because the young man who hit me did not have insurance or any assets that could have been used to help with my medical costs or the loss of my car. I have a good friend here in Corpus Christi named Jane. I called Jane to see if she could help me out, as I was in the hospital with broken ribs, a broken sternum, and large open wounds in each of my legs. Jane, a gift from Heaven, has a friend who is an attorney. His name is Bert Chapa, and he is with Heil Law Firm. As I could not go to Mr. Chapa’s office, he worked with me by telephone, with help from my friend Jane. He told me he could not promise anything, but he would do his best. I expected Mr. Chapa to come back with the same verdict as the other attorneys: that he could do nothing. However, Bert Chapa used his experience to get me a bit of settlement money! I am so grateful to Mr. Chapa! Although Mr. Chapa could not get enough settlement to pay for my car, it did give me enough to pay some of these medical bills and help with food expenses. I’m writing this review to tell other people like me, who don't have enough medical and/or auto insurance, not to give up! If you're involved in an accident, call Bert Chapa! He made my troubles look so much brighter! Mr. Chapa is a genuinely nice man and a veteran. Mr. Chapa treats you with so much respect, no matter what your age. Mr. Chapa, thank you for your service to our country! Thank you, and thank you to your whole office for your great support. I hope my legs heal soon so I can come to your office to meet you and the others who have helped me. Y’all have been so kind to me when I needed help so badly.
