Our testing is for allergic contact dermatitis, a skin condition triggered by allergens that touch the skin. This leads to an immune response. Many items contain these substances, including lotions, hair dyes, soaps, and metals. The patch test is a non-invasive special technique used to detect which chemicals cause itchy and painful skin reactions in patients. Itching associated with skin rashes from which patients have suffered can be cured by finding and avoiding triggers. Patch testing involves placing a few substances to which you may be allergic on your body's back and keeping them in place with adhesive. The test involves no skin pricks or blood draws. We will teach you how to prevent exposure. We administer the testing in our office for numerous allergens, including level 4 work allergens. The testing is tailored to each patient's unique exposure history and examination.
