Texas Woman's University was established in 1901 as the Girls Industrial College, created by an act of the 27th Legislature. It was envisioned as and continues to be a liberal education institution that prepares women for the "practical industries of our age", offering special instruction to achieve these goals. Since 1972, TWU has been open to men. TWU is a state-funded university that provides a wide array of academic programs, including master's, baccalaureate, and doctoral degrees. The institution now marks its tenth year. It has developed from a small college to a large university. TWU has its home campus in Denton and two health sciences campuses where its physical therapy and nursing programs are located and thriving. The TWU main campus is in Denton, with health sciences centers in Dallas and Houston.

Additionally, various professions and services are available at the school.
