In 1869, Randolph Clark and Addison Clark founded TCU, imagining a college that would provide a classic education to both men and women. The Clark's' father and all three were Fort Worth minister-teachers. Because they preferred to be on the open prairie of Thorp Spring near a lively culture created by the cattle industry referred to as "Hell's Half Acre," the brothers opened AddRan Male and Female College, co-educational, with just thirteen students. TCU then enjoyed a century+ of mutual enrichment, growth, and community with the city, although the new millennium has allowed the university to make unprecedented cultural and physical advances. We have constructed a campus that respects history and looks forward with vision, strategic planning, and generosity. More than 11,000 Horned Frog students today pursue the founders' dream, and nearly 90,000 form a global network. TCU started as a family endeavor where men and women could feel valued and belong. We are here nearly 150 years later (TCU- Fine Arts Building).
