About this business
Give Us Paws provides comprehensive training programs for family dogs and pets. We offer a variety of options and tailor the training to each dog's needs. The Karen Pryor Academy created the class as part of its approach, adding "foundational skills" to any training list. The senior instructor will teach the owners how to train their dogs without using physical or verbal punishment or corrections. Ten "foundation behavior" concepts will be taught for the dog to be the socially acceptable family dog the owner desires. The "foundation skills" are the essentials that an owner and their dog must know to be able to learn successfully for a lifetime.
The "foundation behavior" is the action that the dog will perform on command, such as sitting nicely to be petted, walking on a leash with grace, settling, or responding when called. Each dog owner and their dog will learn nine different foundation behaviours, each forming the basis for one or more of the program's programs. Each foundation behaviour will have its maximum level, usually dependent on achieving specific criteria, as well as a maximum of four levels of achievement. The maximum level is typically dependent on the dog owner's ability to learn for Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Training. Each dog owner will be monitored by the instructor as they master each new foundation behaviour and skill as they work towards reaching the maximum level. The instructor will then move to the next foundation behaviour once each dog owner completes the maximum level of the foundation behaviour. Ownership and dog must be successful at every level, and each level will be complete according to their learning rate.
