Where is Kearney, McWilliams & Davis, PLLC located?
I was referred to KMD Law through the CLC Union benefit program, which included a complimentary 30-minute consultation with an attorney. My goal was to get legal clarity on a solar panel agreement I believed was misrepresented — I had been approached by a cancellation company and wanted an actual licensed attorney to review the contract and tell me if there were grounds for cancellation or legal action.
What I received fell far short of even basic expectations. The “consultation” lasted under 10 minutes, during which I was told they needed electric bills to proceed. I was then quoted $500 for a contract review and legal opinion. I agreed and submitted the requested documentation promptly.
Weeks went by with no meaningful follow-up. When they finally did reply, it was a vague suggestion that they “could send a demand letter” — for another $1,000 to $1,500 — without offering any actual legal analysis, no written opinion, and no direct answers to the specific questions I raised. I wasn’t asking for miracles — just an attorney’s evaluation of the contract I submitted and a clear explanation of whether I had legal standing.
When I pressed for clarification, I was told the firm was “confused” by my inquiry. Eventually, one of their attorneys sent a short email — just a few lines long — with general statements and zero case-specific detail. It felt like they hadn’t even looked at what I submitted.
What made the experience worse was the behavior of John Davis, a managing partner who had never previously spoken with me. Instead of resolving the issue professionally, he injected himself into the conversation and sent a series of aggressive and condescending emails, questioning my integrity, accusing me of not paying my bills, and mocking my attempt to get legal clarity. He compared the service I received to getting an “X-ray with bad news” — except I never got the X-ray, just a bill.
I later consulted a different law firm, which took the time to review everything and clearly explain my legal options. KMD did none of this. I also filed a complaint with the State Bar, though unfortunately, lack of competence or follow-through does not necessarily violate ethics rules.
Bottom line: I would not recommend KMD Law to anyone — especially if you’re looking for professionalism, transparency, or basic courtesy. In my experience, they overpromised, underdelivered, and became hostile when questioned. Do your research and take your legal business elsewhere.
