John Kirksey, a young intern with a strong passion for architecture, founded Kirksey Architecture in 1971. John was one year out of design school and had a single project when he started the firm. Since then, Kirksey has grown to become a pioneer in the Texas architectural industry. John, working from his loft with two of his friends on one project, has now more than 150 professional employees in Houston, Texas, along with offices in Austin, and Dallas. This paper will provide a detailed analysis and comparison of two multiresidential apartment developments that Kirksey has been involved with. This comparison will investigate each building's history, construction style, material use, client and architect’s requirements, and their impact on the environment. Both Luby’s and Woodland's Heights apartment developments were completed between 2019 and 2020. This paper will analyze their differences and similarities from an architectural perspective.
