Whole Earth Provisions Co. was founded in the 1960s and 1970s as people began to challenge the values and views of their predecessors. Jack and Linda talked with friends about whether they could launch a business involving the concepts and philosophy of the Whole Earth Catalog, which had just been printed. The Catalog was revolutionary in its time, spanning from the 1960s to the 1980s. They identified an empty space on 24th Street near the University of Texas Campus location through their friend, and they brought in here their products and supplies. Almost everything sold in the first two weeks, which included flour mills (which Jack bought from his brother Joe), oil lamps, camping soaps, and massage oils.
