Client Testimonials: Experiences with Cordell & Cordell | Family Law & Divorce: Review 1. My experience with Cordell & Cordell was so incredible that I do not think I can put it into words. But I should give all the credit to my father-oriented firm and especially my attorney Robert Hanks. I don't want to reveal all the details of my case publicly, but I will give you some background. I separated from my then wife in February of 2023, and our boy was just over a year old by then. I was and still am a very loving and involved father, but the ex and I's relationship was not healthy, and I worried for my son. I did not want her to continuing fighting with me in front of him. I chose to put my son first and leave, knowing full well I would be sacrificing half my time with him but that would allow him to have much healthier and better parents in the long run. This is a very classic tale of unreasonable, bitter, controlling ex who felt wronged and wanted everything in the world for it. I was denied even the minimum time and she told me Utah is a mother state and she would be able to take full custody no problem. I think it is important to note that in this situation, I am a health care professional. I do not drink, abuse any substance, I'm not an abusive or neglectful man physically or emotionally. I am a very gentle person who puts my best foot forward every single day for everyone to the best of my ability. But, of course, people can lash out when they're hurt, and try to take what they think they deserve, and they don't care who it hurts. Despite having a loving and involved father for her son, she slapped me with court papers in early April of 2023. I had a co-worker tell me about Robert Hanks and how much success their friend had with him. I called him, and he was incredible. He talked with me past the 15 minute consultation time, gave me advice on how to get a leg up from that moment so everything was much smoother going forward, he did all he could to keep my payments as low as possible especially with how much my ex hit me with legally so fast, gave me genuinely good advice even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear, does all he can to make things swift and end quickly with his client's goals in mind, he is just incredible. But here’s the thing. Some may not like that he will be brutally honest (E. g. “no, you have an extremely low chance of that”). He will tell you what’s best for the child both in the eyes of the court and in general. He’s seen a lot, worked many cases, he knows the other attorneys very well, their tactics, the judges, how they take things into consideration, what they won’t, he’s VERY thorough, realistic and upfront. Some people may not like that, but divorce and custody gets ugly. If you're unrealistic with your expectations, you'll be disappointed. He’s an attorney, not a miracle worker. My ex and I were married 6 years and was demanding over $1K/month for alimoney and child support as well as full custody. My expectations were realistic and put my son first. 50/50 custody and not giving her a huge chunk of my monthly income. That’s was it. And it was EASY getting 50/50 and support only ended up being under $100 a month with no alimoney at all. I still spent an arm and a leg, but that wasn’t his fault. We could have been done within maybe 2 months, and she dragged it out 11 months and almost made us go to trial. Robert was roughly $360/hour when I hired him. I probably spent over $20K during those 11 months. But it was worth every single cent. Once I secured the 50/50 at the temporary orders hearing, it was as simple as just sticking to the temporary orders and responding to my ex. She eventually gave in to everything major. 50/50 custody, 50/50 on the house, medical costs, daycare costs, joint moderate and big decision making, etc. Everything is as it should be for my son, and I have Robert Hanks to thank for that. His decree was so thorough, that there is very little room for interpretation and the decree will likely only need minor alterations down the road if at all. My son is now 4, so smart, thriving, happy as can be seeing both parents, I couldn’t be more grateful. Review 2.
