About this business

David Ericson Fine Art, specializing in Utah sculpture and painting, was founded in October 1978. The first form of David Ericson's Fine Art was Gallery 56 on 400 South and 56 West in downtown Salt Lake City. Vern Swanson wrote that David Ericson had the most substantial sales gallery in Utah for early Utah art by the 1980s. His gallery has been called a "Grand Central Station" for pioneer painters and high-quality art. David thinks it is essential to build a collection by selecting art you love. If you are passionate about a piece, then buy it. If you take smart risks and purchase things passionately, you may sometime be able to sell it for profit. However, you will never regret the piece if you are passionate about it. To illustrate our commitment to that philosophy, we have a Lifetime Guaranteed Return Policy. If you return any purchase for any reason, we will give you a gallery credit. David has also helped many artists and sat on numerous art committees, including the Governor's Mansion Foundation Board and Salt Lake County Art Advisory Board. In his early years, he also served on the Utah Arts Council Collection Committee, LDS Church Art Committee, and University of Utah Special Exhibitions Committee. David Ericson Fine Art has performed many appraisals on essential collections throughout the nation, from private estates to institutions throughout the West. David remains dedicated to researching Utah's pioneer artists. David handled A.B.'s estates. Wright, Mabel Frazer, and James T. Harwood. Clyde Squires. Dan Weggeland. Dan Martin Ottinger. Jack Sears. Clyde Cornick. Howell Rosenbaum. Joyce Blegen. David Ericson Fine Art also sells many early Utah pieces by John Hafen, C.C.A. Christensen, and Waldo Midgley. LeConte Stewart, Lee Greene Richards. Henri Moser. James T. Harwood. Minerva Teichert. Mabel Frazer. Dan Weggeland. Mahonri young, William Parkinson. Maynard Dixon. David describes himself as an "Art Nerd." He is knowledgeable about art history and particularly loves Western and early Utah art. It is an honor to represent some of Utah's most talented artists, past, and present.
