Testimonials: Friendly service and experienced. Closing documents signed in just over 1.5 hrs easy. Thanks! Compliments to Shoemaker Law for a very efficient closing. Did closing with purchasing agent thru Shoemaker at 9:00 AM. Negative from the moment of arriving, HE was not there. We waited, secretary arrived 10 min late, she placed us in a conference room, alone, he was late 20 minutes. He rushed us through the entire closing - NOTHING explained except for us having to ask exactly in detail what we were doing. Then, he announced he had no check for the sale that he was supposed to bring. We would have to come back tomorrow or at best later that afternoon. Coming from 75 miles away we chose to wait. His reply was it would probably be after 2:00 PM. Leaving confused and slighted, we went around the block to give this some prayer, to decide to trust the decision through our reflection and went to shop! At 11:20, we headed back, cautiously approaching Shoemaker with our confusing thoughts & feelings and asking if the check was ready. The secretary's (attorney was not there) reply to our request was absolutely I have just finished it here it is. She handed the check to us and off to the bank we went. On our ride home we thought we would check at their county court with the clerks office to inquire when our title was reported as good and cleared for the approval for our closing. It had been 2 business days before. Tax time has rolled around and in the preparation of our payment, our CPA explains that we by law must receive an IRS & VA state form (similar to ? if not a 1099) showing the (required by law) form attorney office tax withheld, which was 40% of sale. We called, and the new secretary agreed to look it up and found the original sale contract, and emailed it directly. Our CPA office was extremely conflicted without the form that Shoemaker had not supplied. We insisted in convincing her to file with the form supplied original contract as it was all we received. My exhausted review here concludes with the following: Using caution, if you must deal with this attorney, he is not interested in those whom he makes his living off of. Only his interests, and of course his golf game appointment. We witnessed as we pulled away that morning, him running out to his car, placing golf clubs in the trunk, and him racing away. The handling of this sale was absolutely terrible. Paraphrase for Shoemaker Law, PLLC: Clients praised the firm for being "friendly" and "knowledgeable" in the review. There were no issues as closing documents were signed quickly. However, one client said the signing appointment with the purchasing agent was a frustrating experience. The agent did not show up, leading to a 20-minute wait. The secretary then ushered the client into a conference room, where they awaited the attorney. The signing process was rushed, and the lawyer did not explain the signing documents. The client was informed that the sale check was not available that day, but it could be ready after 2:00 PM. Despite being 75 miles from the office, the client decided to wait. After the signing took place, the client felt slighted and confused. The client went around the block to gain clarity and prayed about the situation. They concluded that they would trust the decision. Back at the office, the client was relieved after the new secretary confirmed that the check was ready. From the office, the client went straight to the bank. However, two days later, the client was stressed, having not received the required IRS and VA state form, similar to a 1099. The client contacted the firm, and the new secretary sent the original sale contract via email. The client's CPA office was puzzled as Shoemaker had not supplied the form. The client asked the secretary to file with the original contract as they had not received any other tax forms from the firm. The review advised future clients to be cautious when dealing with an attorney who only cares about his interests, including his golf game, and does not put the clients' needs first. This client would not recommend Jason Shoemaker's services to their friends and family.
