REEDS Jewelers founder Bill Zimmer came from a family of retail jewelers. Bill's siblings taught him how to market diamonds as a boy, just as his own children would. Roberta, his wife, acquired a small jewelry store in Wilmington, North Carolina, and renamed it REEDS Jewelers. The Zimmers launched Whiteville and Jacksonville stores next and began diversifying in other parts of the Carolinas. Despite owning two dozen stores, they stayed in Wilmington.
