Client Reviews Wish I could give a negative 5 stars! “Jane Lemley” was extremely rude and conceited during our conversation over the phone. “You couldn’t afford me anyways”. I wouldn’t want to hire her or spend a penny on her, even if she was the last attorney in town. Would NEVER recommend this office or Jane Lemley specifically to anyone! There are much more polite & professional attorneys in Winchester, spend your time & money elsewhere!! I suggest avoiding Charles Billman at all costs. He will take as much money from you and your family as he possibly can (even as a court appointed attorney) and will do as little as he can get away with. He is a horrible lawyer. He gave my partner horrible legal advice, little to no effort/ representation, missed court dates, and this all resulted in my partner going to prison. In my opinion he purposely gave poor legal advice so my partner would be sentenced to prison and Charles Billman would no longer have to work for us (he could turn his attention to scamming other vulnerable people for thousands of dollars and nothing in return.) I personally witnessed and experienced Charles Billman's poor performance in court and his rude attitude towards us for quite some time. He was biased and did not believe in or fight for the innocence of my partner. He is a criminal defense lawyer and acts more like a prosecutor. He put no effort in whatsoever. And was way too friendly towards prosecutors (possible collusion and corruption going on.) He literally did nothing but occasionally show up. He did nothing to defend my partner. He should be ashamed of himself. He is greedy, manipulative, rude, incompetent, a liar, and careless. This law firm should be embarrassed and ashamed for employing him. His legal assistant 'Whitney' is also shockingly rude and offensive. One of the rudest people I've ever met. This law firm, Charles Billman, and his whole team should be investigated for poor performance, bribery, bias, corruption, collusion, incompetence, and fraudulent activities. Shame on you Charles Billman and Harrison & Johnston. My partner and I will never forget how awfully you treated us and failed us and our children. We will never stop fighting for our justice, one way or another. My mom has dementia and Ari Sommer did a great job helping me navigate the medicaid process for long-term care. Ari is very responsive and I would highly recommend him for any elder care planning. Matt Bass is a stellar attorney with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Mr. Bass was extremely helpful, walking me through the legal process, promptly answering my questions, and providing a detailed analysis that was instrumental in guiding my decisions. His friendly demeanor and responsiveness is comforting during the most uncomfortable situations. I am grateful to Matt and his firm for the excellent support I received. The Attorneys in this firm are excellent. Each and every one of them are professional and charismatic. They not only balance their personal lives on top of their professional responsibilities, but also while doing that provide the best service possible to make sure you are well taken care of. I have never had an issue with any of these attorneys and I would choose them over and over again. I know life can't be easy having so many people looking to you for help, but they do their darndest so make sure they get the job done right that will best suit you. If you live in this area, I highly recommend them. Worked with their lawyer after Pandemic. Had no issues during the first meeting, that might be bc it came from a higher ranking lawyer. I started having issues right after the first court hearing. The lawyer would not won't to provide legal documents, hinting me to got to the Frederick County, VA's website and retrieve them. Was not very friendly and rushing to get out all the time. I felt like he did not even want to represent my company. Such a shame. He knew it was obvious we would win all those cases which was worth way beyond $50K, but he did not put any effort, even when I told I was working with VA detectives. I don't know if he was on a regular salary that he did not even worry, but he was so lame. No response when I emailed him, the only time I got email was his or company secretary asking weird questions, when I had already provided all answers. No answer from him before court hearings at all. Complete ignorance. I will find his name and announce it here... He was fired after 2 court hearings that lasted less than 20 minutes each with late arrivals and no shows. What a shame.... Ari Sommer did an excellent job in guiding me through the process of preparing my estate plan. I explained to Ari how I wanted different scenarios handled in case I became incapacitated due to health or upon my death. Ari knew exactly what I needed and offered different options to accomplish those goals, explaining each in detail. I am grateful to Ari for his help in “putting my life in order” at this stage of my life. It’s very comforting to know my family will have what is needed when I pass on to Heaven. Mr. Bass did an outstanding job representing us . He genuinely cared , it made all the difference. If you want someone who has a true passion for what he does ,and who will fight for you he’s your guy . My case was certainly not complex. However, it was serious enough to merit strong need for representation. I was referred to this firm and Charles Billman handled my case in a professional manner. The professionalism extends to the legal assistant(s) and the person who answers the phone. I always felt I was in good hands. If you live in the area, give them strong consideration. If you choose to use this law firm, stay far away from Charlie Billman. He is the most dangerous, dishonest, shady and incompetent attorney I have ever had the misfortune of hiring. He deliberately hid court dates from me, which I obviously missed attending, blaming his paralegal for the mistake. Missing that court date ultimately cost me around $12k in opposing counsels attorney fees. Mr Billman showed up to that court date on my behalf, a week after I fired him, and gave the opposing side everything they were asking for. He also charged me over $8k for trial prep but the morning of my divorce trial, 10 minutes before court, he informed me that because I technically hired him to settle my divorce, he was not prepared for a trial. I could write so much more about what this incompetent piece of trash attorney did to botch my divorce, but I’ll just hope that anyone looking to hire him will read at least this much and run the other direction! I am genuinely shocked that the managing partners at this firm have not let him go. He is only a member at this firm, not a partner. He is bringing the entire firm a bad name! Matt Bass has represented me on several occasions and not only is he incredibly communicative. His professionalism is unmatched and makes his clientele feel comfortable trusting legal processes. There’s really no one better than Matt and his legal partners. Also he’s a rockstar in the courthouse - highly recommend! Working with Matthew Bass was a pleasure, he explained everything and made it stress free. Would recommend him to anyone in need of a lawyer. Gracious, professional, knowledgeable and attentive staff. Easy to find good parking. A very nice part of town. Great Firm. Top notch attorneys and staff across the board. I don't hesitate to recommend them to anyone in need of a broad range of legal services.
