Champion Party Supply

Champion Party Supply was founded by my grandfather Robert Champion in 1936 at 1417 4th Avenue in Seattle, which is the second-oldest party shop in America. He started when his business was a retail display and sign-making company. Still, it evolved as he added costumes and make-up to cater to the needs of the vaudeville entertainers in the downtown market. By 1950, the company moved to the Pike Place Market after the founder bought it. Since then, the company has undergone a significant transformation from a signage and display company into a costume and party business. The business was reared at the Pike place market for 43 years before my parents relocated us in 1993 to our 1st and Denny store under the Space Needle. We have been there for 22 years, and I refused to be swept away by the demolition of our Queen Anne lower building to build new apartments. Many Seattle landmarks had already gone and we were not to be left behind. After purchasing the business in 2015, I moved it to its current location at Elliott AVE W, and I have been the 3rd generation owner of the Interbay store for 5 years. Visit “The Champion Building,” the historical landmark on Pike Place, and pass by my store to see some of the old signs from my grandfather. It is so fulfilling to be in his shoes and take pride in his legacy, which has made Seattle celebrate for 84 years (Champion Party Supply, 2020).
