Villa Comunitaria, formerly known as South Park Information and Resource Center, was started in 2005. We aimed to address the community's different needs. We have seen our organization evolve, with much of what we do developed by those who have participated in our programs. Many of today's leaders, even outside the organization, have been volunteers or participants in our programs. Our programs are facilitated by our Promotoras Comunitarias. They are women who have taken what they have learned about leadership and put it into action.
We know that leadership development for Latinx communities is an ongoing process. In 2013, we began studying this. Our organization's secret to success is that everyone who serves it is part of a single community. Villa Comunitaria has a unique way of supporting families. We want to make sure that families can get what they need in a culturally appropriate and innovative way. Our goal is to create an environment where families can interact and work together. We offer programs for children, including childcare and meals, and offer Spanish-speaking presentations for parents. These programs are essential for Latinx immigrants to help them navigate the complex U.S. immigration system.
Our programs also cover living and healthcare, education, and legal information. We know that if we provide these services and help the Latinx community, we can help it adapt to the American way of life.
