I am not familiar with Wisconsin workers’ compensation laws, which is why I hired Mr. Waltz. However, having worked as a paralegal for a workers’ comp attorney in Maryland, I quickly began to question my decision. WC cases require a great deal of sensitivity, organization, and care. 1. Clients should never directly communicate with insurers because they work in tandem with the employer. It’s the attorneys responsibility to inform the client of this and to request that the insurance carrier direct all related communications to the attorney. This is done in a letter/notice of representation. 2. Clients should receive a copy of all correspondence sent/received on their behalf. 3. Next, the attorney should be responding to non-urgent messages in a reasonable timeframe (I think 3-5 days is reasonable but I’m still waiting for calls to be returned from 2-3 months ago). I wish I had followed my instincts when I first walked into his office. 7. Very caring and friendly. Explains all deals of your case to you. Helps in every way.
