Virgil "Wolf" Schulenburg was a Navy veteran, serving four years, and two tours in Vietnam. Schulenburg was a dedicated biker, purchasing a 1941 Knucklehead while in the Navy, riding it from Seattle back to Sauk County, Wisconsin, in 1976. In 1979, he bought Sauk Prairie Harley-Davidson: a location that operated until 2016. Schulenburg was able to open Harley-Davidson of Madison in April 2015. Combined, Schulenburg and his staff bring nearly 400 years of experience to the dealership. H-D of Madison is currently entering its 7th year of operation.
