Marietta Investment Partners, an independent Registered Investment Advisor, is powered by a close, experienced team. It is the dream of any professional to be the captain of their boat. In my 22nd year of portfolio management at 57 years in 1999, I realized this. I wanted to work for a firm that respected basic principles, many of which differed from those I was loyal to at the time. Professionals over the age of 60 often shut down their businesses and pass them to younger professionals. I didn't want to retire and lose contact with customers and colleagues. I was concerned about losing my passion for professional investing. It was a bit late to make a business, or I would have to relocate. I was hesitant to think about everything. Founding a company was terrifying and thrilling. I wasn't billionesially wealthy; I had a wife and three kids, and investment advising is a fierce industry. The possibilities were vast, and I don't regret my decision for a day.
