Ralf is my name, but I prefer to be called Raflar. I'm a Canadian painter who specializes in acrylic and watercolor abstracts. En plain air is the way I prefer to paint, as my environment has played a major role in shaping my art. My art brings me great joy and peace, and I hope that others will feel that same sense of connection to nature. My work has always been influenced by energy. My surroundings inspire me, whether it's the open water, woods, or distant skyline. It is important to me that the viewer of my art feel the spirit and energy from the environment in which it was created. Watercolors require delicate handling, and since I paint outdoors, I use water from the environment to dilute my paint. In order to create acrylic abstracts and landscapes, I use a palette knife. This allows me to express the environment with an impressionistic and expressive style. My work is inspired by the natural world, which also encourages me to explore and experiment with new techniques and mediums. My hope is that the love of nature and its energy, as well as the freedom to create, will be reflected in my work.
