Summary for Globe Studios Globe Studios offers safe and low-cost studios in the Waterloo Region to help artists from Waterloo Region. The old Bonnie Stuart Shoe Factory in downtown Kitchener also houses our studios. We are a non-profit organization with a volunteer board of directors. Six University of Waterloo Studio Fine Arts students founded Globe Studios in 1988. The Globe Furniture Company, a wooden school desk and church pew factory, was where they started. The old factory provided a space with high ceilings and factory windows for the collective. The students adopted the name Globe Studios, but the collective did not have a permanent studio. In 1999, they bought a small piece of their building, the former Bonnie Stuart Shoe Factory in downtown Kitchener. The building has enough space to create new spaces for creative expression. Today, Globe Studios has artists ranging from potters to painters, sculptors to jewelers, and printmakers to jewelers. Globe Studios acquired the rest of the building in 2020 because of the demand for studio space. With over forty studios, Globe Studios has become a community for artists, arts groups, and organizations. Members work together, support each other, and collaborate within the region.
