About this business

Garneau/University Early Learning Centre Society was founded in 1986. It is an accredited, licensed non-profit organization in Edmonton, providing high-quality early childhood education and kindergarten programs. We are committed to staying current with the most recent early childhood development research to help our Centre offer educationally enriching classrooms. We believe in Reggio Emilia-inspired classrooms, which are part of the Flight Curriculum for a rich set of experiences. We establish the connection between children, parents, and the Centre. Our teaching team collaborates with families to learn from the values and culture of their homes and make the transition between the Centre and home seamless. We believe that children learn best from their own lives. The team consists of enthusiastic, qualified, and professional educators who help each child grow in the preschool and kindergarten programs. Every teaching staff member has an advanced education and continues learning to improve early learning skills. The educators within our classrooms are partners with their students, exploring, asking questions, and researching together. Reggio Emilia says that the environment is the third teacher of a child and that they should be safe and supported in their exploration and interaction with us. Children and teachers often interact one-on-one and in small class sizes. Our furniture is child-sized, and our classrooms are cozy with natural light, low lighting, and soft music for a more comfortable and safe space for children to learn. Documentation and materials for learning should be child-accessible and reflect their level. Our shelves are stocked with open-ended materials that stimulate curiosity and play. Our children's educational journey is enriched through parent and community involvement. Both parent volunteers and outside community members are welcome to visit our classrooms regardless of their size. All contributions are welcome, whether it's sharing your special skills, hobbies, celebrating cultural events or enjoying a Have A Favorite Book. Our community enjoys excursions, and we often go on adventure walks to explore the natural environment, local businesses, and amenities.
