Established in 1984, BC Disability Law was formerly known as Pierce Van Loon, a full-service law firm situated in Vancouver's downtown area. The company was founded by Lawrence Pierce, who has since retired. BC Disability Law gained a reputation at the national level when it secured the initial mental distress damages compensation in Canada. Also known as “aggravated damages,” the funds were to right the insurer's wrongful denial of benefits. Over the years, the firm has championed cases setting a precedent on disabled persons' rights and the responsibilities that insurance providers, employers, regulatory boards, and government departments like ICBC, CPP, and Worksafe owe them.

The Disability Alliance BC evaluations reflect widespread approval. Many respondents were grateful for the assistance they received, emphasizing how the organization's help with PWD approval or tax preparation after initial refusal made a significant difference to them. The community gathers opinions alone but also guides and supports its members through the complex processes required to get government assistance. Most reviews portray DABC as an organization dedicated to helping people with disabilities advocate for themselves. Many also praised the group for its extensive resources on their website, which significantly increased their knowledge about what they were entitled to. Almost all respondents said they found DABC public service advocates knowledgeable and supportive, providing significant comfort and effective advocacy for a largely exploitative and inaccessible system. While many others felt they provided substantial information and were caring and very kind, others reported negative experiences. Some reviewers said that it was hard to get an appointment and that everything went well, but others said they had waited too long for a response to their request. Still, the reports of delays reflect the overwhelming demand for this kind of help, which suggests that DABC and similar organizations may need to expand. A few people said they didn't get records of when they requested them and, in one case, a missed appointment due to a seizure was never received. One or two reviews suggested that the service was not good at all, but they do not represent the prevalent views. On the whole, it was clear that many people found the Disability Alliance BC to be a very supportive and compassionate group that helps them when many others don't. This is a good place for someone who is struggling with government bureaucracy to find help. However, the support isn't always perfect.
