Frank Werner was a doctor who, after having three small windows on his vehicle repaired due to breaks in the glasses, expressed a desire to try and find a method to fix the breaks without replacing the entire windshield. Frank Werner met Bill Wiele, a chemical engineering student, who helped him develop the method that has become known as one of the best ways to repair windshields. Gerald Keinath noticed the potential of the business. He bought the patent rights for windshield repair in 1972 and took steps to make it available to the public. The business started as a home-based operation. However, at the behest of the inventor, the company name was changed to NOVUS(r), which is the Latin word for "new," "innovative" and "new."
