The Dunlop Art Gallery actively encourages the creation, viewing, and researching of varied visual arts, with a focus on contemporary art. Their mandate is to enhance the public’s quality of life by encouraging the practice and understanding of art in all its diversity through exhibitions, publications, and programs. Purpose & Philosophy The Dunlop Art Gallery, as part of the Regina Public Library, is a public art gallery and cultural institution with a mandate to serve its local residents, Library customers, visual artists, regional and national culture, and the community. The goals of the Gallery are to: Research visual cultures and their histories, emphasizing their social context and the relationship between culture and production. Make research results accessible and informative, including, but not limited to, exhibitions and screenings; research; lectures and programs; publications; or extension programs. Background They often collaborate with thematic and curatorial partners on special projects, and the results of these collaborations are showcased in their facility. From the opening in 1911, the Regina Public Library’s collecting policy has included building a collection of contemporary Saskatchewan art. Appropriate for a public library, the collection includes a broad range of media, styles, and representations, with an effort to encompass voices and people from diverse communities. Art Rental Service now has over 200 works (including 19th-century drawings, paintings, and prints) by Canadian artists, with a substantial number of Saskatchewan and Western Canadian artists (approximately 45%).

The Dunlop gallery within the central library is a fantastic place to explore and understand art accessibility because it combines contemporary art with historical education. Reviewers feel this venue is a gem in Regina, with an encouraging and inspirational environment and a never-ending exhibition list. They also note that the gallery is a cultural oasis. Many reviewers recommend visiting for an enlightening and transformative experience. The gallery was also made larger. A notable aspect of the gallery is the positivity of owner Gary Varro.
