The Gordon Snelgrove Gallery, located in the Murray Building, operates as a public and a teaching gallery. This is where artists display new works and it functions as a contact point with local art ecologies. As an exhibition and presentation space for the public, it also provides a research and teaching lab. The University Art Galleries and Collections consists of four galleries, which acts as the anchor of the development and production of creative and academic fields at the university. It serves as an outlet for artists, curators, and researchers from the Department of Art and Art History and also other departments and communities in which we engage and serve. The Department of Art and Art History Collection is also managed by the ‘Snelgrove.’ This includes selected works produced by graduating faculty and students, with pieces rotated throughout the Murray Building and the University Library, as well as numerous sites all over campus. The collection will also be accessible online soon.

The gallery stands out as a prominent space for young artists to debut their artworks. The stress-free and family-friendly galleries always have a rotating selection of impressive student and professional art pieces, which change frequently with different congregations of audience gracing its opening receptions. The gallery's importance is evident in showcasing the public’s artistic creativity at any given period, with experiences varying from the masterpieces seen every week to the occasional more established artist's exhibitions. In particular, it is seen as a launching pad for young artists to showcase their paintings. It also offers a platform where collectors can acquaint themselves with unique artwork. The gallery also serves as an art incubator as most students, particularly art students, have a chance to show their talent to the local community. The community, however, is often required to pay a visit and see the works of art found in the gallery.
