In 1938, 20-year-old Jim Berridge Jr. founded Berridge Nurseries. The company's location at Central Avenue and Earll Drive marked the initiation of a lifetime commitment to high-quality products and services. Berridge Nurseries was moved from Camelback Road to 16th Street in 1952. The business expanded to 21 acres and incorporated retail and wholesale. Lastly, in July 1971, 22-year-old Jim Reinert began various fires in Northeast Phoenix. One of the fires gutted the nursery building. Nine years after the arson, Jim sold the rebuilt nursery to developers who intended to build offices, restaurants, and retail. The 30-year-old lush eucalyptus trees that surrounded the property were lush. The project was named Arboleda "The Grove" by the developers due to the large trees.
