FREELITE Inc History FREELITE Inc was established in Tucson in 1977 as 'Desert Living.' I came from the Northeast, and seven of my friends and I relocated to Arizona out of the desire for a new way of life. None of us were businessmen, but my partners and I were. We were all in our 20s, so we had energy, innovation, and varying degrees of carpentry experience. As it is not necessarily known, we had a strong capital and were not motivated by money. We just did not have much money. We were resilient and imaginative. We had a business philosophy then that still guides us. That year, I joined a philosophy class at Yale that I think formed my philosophy on life. We wanted to create a business that could sustain our lives and those of our community. That was our belief. We wanted to have a positive impact on other people's lives, and although that sounds somewhat fake today, it was true!
