K'ursi is a part of a hearty breakfast in Eritrea, enjoyed by friends, families and coffee lovers.
Located in the Temescal District of Oakland, Alem's Coffee Shop continues to serve the community with great food and coffee. Over thirty years ago, Alem Negash and his wife Nigisti Eyasu moved to the United States from Eritrea. The Negashes are committed to serving their customers the way they would their own kids or family members at Alem's Coffee and are pleased to announce an exquisite coffee and food menu to spark happiness in your taste buds. We have been uniting the community since 1999 with our delicious meals prepared by family recipes—favorites such as Shahan ful, a rich vegetarian dish featuring fava beans, olive oil, and a flavorful blend of spices, including chili peppers, green peppers, and chopped tomatoes. Not to forget the spicy meat stew( Tisby/Tsebhi Sga), which is served with bread and is a must-try. We also have Injera, the Eritrean traditional bread made from teff, wheat, and barley that is used in various dishes. Our Spicy Vegetarian Bread Salad or Fata, a favorite for those searching for something different, we've combined the salad with ketchup and eggs. The Boiled Potato Sandwich, nicknamed “Umbotito,” is a must-try, with boiled potatoes in a sandwich. All fans should try Kicha Fit Fit, which is traditional Eritrean flat bread soaked in berebere sauce. The Eritrean egg scramble, an Enkuho Frittata, is another favorite and worth trying.
