ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

About Brian Gross Fine Art, Inc. (BGFA): BGFA was founded in 1990 in Union Square and then relocated to 49 Geary in San Francisco in 1995. In 2013, the gallery moved to 248 Utah Street in the elegantly transformed industrial space of Potrero Hill. BGFA’s brick-and-mortar space for exhibitions closed in 2022 as it transitioned to online sales, private deals, and special projects. BGFA has a distinguished history of accredited exhibitions, high-quality art, and rave reviews from critics. The international community of collectors, curators, artists, and others appreciates the gallery. Brian Gross, co-owner of Fuller Gross Gallery from 1986 to 1990, was a prominent contemporary art gallery in San Francisco. Bay Area icons Robert Arneson and Roy De Forest, as well as Robert Hudson, were essential to the program. BGFA has ongoing relationships with these artists. Los Angeles-based artists Tony Berlant, Ed Moses, and Peter Alexander have been featured at Brian Gross Fine Art. Artists exhibited Karl Benjamin, Marco Casentini, Freddy Chandra, among others, have shown at BGFA. The organization has supported estates like Robert Arneson and Karl Benjamin, Roy De Forest, and Willem de Looper as well as Richard Pousette–Dart and Leo Valledor. It has organized critical exhibitions like Sam Francis: Works on Paper From the Sixties 2001 and the first Pousette Dart exhibition in San Francisco in 2003. BGFA has also presented two groundbreaking Robert Arneson exhibitions: From the 60s (2008) and Guardians of the Secret II (2016). Leo Valledor was Color Space (2016). Brian Gross Bio: Gross earned his diploma from Oberlin College in 1975. He worked as an intern in the Department of Drawings at the Modern Museum in New York City then became a Helena Rubenstein Fellow for Museum Studies and Art History in the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art. Gross became the Assistant Director of Education at the Akron Art Museum after graduating. Next, he was a Curator Fellow at Tamarind Institute of the University of New Mexico. Gross was an active member of the San Francisco Art Dealers Association. He also served on the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and was a Board member of ArtCare and Friends of the San Francisco Art Commission. BGFA’s new iteration offers greater flexibility when working with collectors and artists. Please get in touch with us.
