In 1978, Phil opened a convenience store in San Francisco's Mission District. Over the next 25 years, Phil blended, tested, and learned how to make a great cup of coffee. Philz Coffee was born on January 1, 2003, in San Francisco's Mission District. Phil fell in love with coffee brewing and community building, his labor of love in San Francisco turned into a nationwide coffee. We now have shops in California and Chicago. Phil, like Philz, is dedicated to the communities in which it operates. We roast beans of green and sustainable farmers all over the world and mix them with our custom coffee in our Oakland, CA roasting plant.
