Participation in the community bike shop and use of our mechanics’ expertise is one of the benefits. The Bike Kitchen has made it possible for people of all socio-economic backgrounds and ages to learn how to fix bicycles. They promote leadership and personal growth. They are a co-op shop dedicated to increasing the number of people who use bicycles. This is done through making bikes more affordable, promoting recycling, and working closely with like-minded local organizations. You, as a newcomer, can either participate by paying $5 per day to access the tools and advice of volunteer mechanics or by joining them as a member. The membership fee is between $40-$100 on a sliding scale for a year, or you can also volunteer for six hours in exchange. They may also pick up a bike out of the shop’s inventory for free. A standard bike/frame costs $150 (it may be in a complete or partial state). Once purchased, you may also buy parts from the shop and have them customized. If the bike/frame is bought and you are unable to pay for the parts, you may pay through volunteering. This covers the time from when you arrive to close.
