The concept of Mergeculture emerged in 1996 while the gallery's director was in high school. The director began with exploratory writings on the impact of counterculture and subculture and how they play an important part in evolution. These writings were called "mergeculture" by the director. Because the human experience relies both on differences and shared ground, it was conceived. The director explored subcultures, countercultures, and how they influence social identity. He was especially interested in how people come together to share subcultural ideas and counterculture. The director was surrounded by custom cars and freight trains as well as graffiti and hip-hop, skateboarding and music production. This experience also gave him a wide perspective about the interconnectedness and importance of art and the foundation for almost every interaction we have in this material world. Director began to write about the relationship between individual expression, competition, and social identification. These writings led to the study of human evolution and the research on hieroglyphics. They also covered the origins all known written languages. The writings are now part of Ame Art Consulting's Mergeculture Research Archive. These writings link the dots between important events in counterculture. This pattern has been repeated over nearly twenty years. The writings include observations about the history and culture of graffiti and the custom car movement. They also discuss how self-expression and self-identification developed in humanity through a competitive mentality that pervades all aspects of life.
