Program and Activity Information The Life Enrichment Center (LEC) opened in 1980 as an adult arts education program in North Tampa’s Forest Hills area. The Center has been at the forefront in reinventing and reshaping the landscape of retirement and is one of the few national centers with this crucial mission. National and International Recognition The program of cultural arts at the Life Enrichment Center has been recognized nationally and internationally. We are an organization that primarily serves adults, especially those over 50. The classes offered each week cover various topics, including Creative Writing, Painting in Oil/Acrylic, Watercolors, Tai Chi, Intro to Cartooning, Yoga, Mah Jongg, and Bridge. These individuals are among the most vibrant, creative and exciting people you will ever meet, and they are busy living their best lives. The Benefits of the Arts The arts are known to be good for your health, happiness, and well-being. The program provides social, mental, and cognitive engagement, as well as physical activities that can help you approach your future with grace and dignity while being independent, productive, and healthy. Equity and Diversity Equity is our most important mission and a journey we walk together. The LEC embraces diversity because we respect and honor our similarities and differences. We believe that we have many colors, so we make room for everyone in our beloved community. We endorse equity (no racial dividing lines) and are not prejudiced (whether it be against people of color, white people, indigenous and native people, or any other group). We support all people, regardless of their race, ethnicity or nationality, ancestry or religion, sex or sexual orientation, gender expression and identity, marital or familial status or language, physical or mental impairment or disability, military or economic status, class or immigration status or caregiver status.

Feedback on the Life Enrichment Center is largely positive. Some patrons express gratitude for new skills that have pushed their boundaries and general self-improvement. The first hand reviews expose the institution's ability to push learners to be the best they can possibly be, with self-initiative and resilience. There is a reviewer lauding a one-woman performance, implying that this field is not left behind, encouraging a wider appreciation for the arts and other expansions. Many other users also cannot go back to the previous life after seeing the light from the other end of the tunnel. Most reviewers emphasize the welcome atmosphere, thanks to helpful and diverse staff who make the center an excellent place to be in, and a place where users can enhance their skills. It is possible to have a learning and leisure environment that feels like a workshop. This is another case revealed when other learners say they get to socialize with several individuals, thus keeping their minds active and positive. The center also turns out to be a place that suits the needs of the elderly as a reviewer noted. The closeness and balance make the place ideal for the elderly’s and makes them feel a tinge of importance. Its pro-elderly programs and transport services increase the possibility for the elderly to participate.
