The Gibbons Family Funeral Home was established in its first generation as an Oak Park funeral home located at 4245 W. Madison St., Chicago. Unfortunately, the original building was eventually torn down. After 10 years in operation as Family Funeral Home, it was time to move on. Granted, the building is still there in another capacity. What is agreed upon by all who remember is that the Gibbons Family needed more parking space and a family room. In 1974, Margaret, Marjorie, and John Gibbons purchased the Behnke McKenna funeral home at 5917 W. Irving Park Road a block east of Austin. When it comes to time to transfer the services and records, the available parking lots, and some services, it is a challenge to remember that the pending block club meetings or the day a tree was planted at the newer location. In this case, their move to the Northwest was foreshadowed.
