Doug and Duane Phillips, proud of Freeport, Illinois, made a pact in 1972 to give the community a reputable and dependable automotive repair service. They graduated from Freeport High School in 1972 and 1974, respectively. They were employed by Park Motor Imports, the local Volkswagen dealer, and transferred to Rockford, Illinois. They meticulously serviced Volkswagen cars while working at Park Motor Imports full-time. The Phillips brothers completed the three-year Volkswagen Apprenticeship Program in 1975, learning everything about Volkswagen vehicles from the ground up. They soon learned how to service a variety of American, German, Swedish, and Asian car brands. For example, they were factory-trained technicians for Mercedes/Porsche/Audi/Jaguar at AutoWerks of Rockford by the end of the decade. Due to their dedication to the craft, the Phillips brothers became the industry's first technician to be accredited with ASE-certification of Automotive Service Excellence when it was founded.
