Krista Bermeo is known for her clean and modern designs. They can be made in many materials, including gold, silver or titanium. My goal is to make jewelry that is light and wearable. In 2005 she began designing jewelry at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. She initially focused on creating playful, organic shapes in molten glass. Later, gravity was used to create desired shapes. The drop shape isn't new. It's a fundamental property. It is fundamental to liquid and molten glass. Because it captures light so well that it implies suspension, it is an attractive form and I have used it to start many of my jewelry designs. It becomes an inquiry: "How can this drop of light be made into interesting new forms?" Although she produces jewellery primarily for adults now, Bermeo still has a fascination with light. Her designs also reflect her aesthetic balance of elegance and play. Her delicate designs are reminiscent of dewdrops and pebbles as well as twigs and magnified sand. She has recently collected broken glass fragments left behind by her hometown of Indianapolis. Under her torch, she melts them to make unique constellations that reflect time and place. Art can make beauty out of fragmentation. My 2020 shattered collection of glass is an ode to a year marked by chaos and the shattering many glass ceilings. This is how I try to answer the question "How do we pick up these pieces?" Krista Bermeo's artwork has been displayed in a variety of retail locations, including the Corning Museum of Glass, New York, The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC, The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, The Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Indianapolis Museum of Art, and The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. She completes all of her work in her downtown Indianapolis studio.
