MASS Design Group

We are a non-profit research and design collective that promotes dignity and justice in architecture. This organization began as a realization that architecture has a substantial impact. MASS (Model of Architecture Serving Society) operates under the idea that architecture can assist communities in dealing with their past, creating new narratives, healing collectively, and imagining the future. The professionals who make up our group are over 200 in number and come from 20 countries worldwide. We have a blend of landscape architects, engineers, and builders. There are also furniture designers, architects, writers, filmmakers, researchers, and additional professionals. Our mission is to foster a world in which purposeful, healing, and inspiring design is available to everyone. In 2021, the American Institute of Architects awarded MASS Design Group the 2022 AIA Architecture Firm Award. The 2020 Architecture Innovator of the Year was also awarded to MASS by the Wall Street Journal. MASS was born from healthcare and continues this commitment with an award that acknowledges their dedication to architecture as a form of healing. MASS was also named 4th on Architect Magazine's 2019 Top 50 Design Firms List. This list includes only the most influential and impactful firms on the planet. In 2017, the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum recognized this design solution with the National Design Award. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the world may have been grim, but this award recaptured the joy that can be found in even the most difficult years.
