We had the opportunity to design Harvard's Sherman Fairchild Biochemistry Laboratory during the late 1970s. One of the first-built biochemistry laboratories, the lab helped the company rise as a leader in healthcare, academic science, and research building design. These buildings attract many people. Some of us are drawn to them because we like to learn about complex systems. Other people are drawn there because they have been in hospitals at pivotal moments. People are also attracted to structures that support intellectual communities. We emphasize our strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and colleagues as we work through the design stages. We create remarkable environments. We see many other buildings in the region as ignored and unimportant. They encase some of the most important events in life, such as birth, death, scientific discoveries, and illness recovery. These buildings should be elevated and improved. Our Payette firm has 160 talented and dedicated employees based in Boston. We work on buildings, interiors, space strategy, engineering, and design visualization. In all stages of the design and implementation process, we involve our clients.
