About this business
When my late husband, Ron Henderson, and I had a vision to create a dance-educational environment that would allow children to learn and be themselves, we started Diane's Dance School in 1974, and I taught all classes for the next 31 years. Today, Diane's School of Dance serves almost 1,000 students, making us one of the most successful dance schools in America - and I can see why! DSOD is a leading dance school in Kansas City and has been an iconic Northland institution for many more years. I'm in more of a leadership role now, with help from more than 70 assistants and 20 instructors. Tap, classical dance, jazz, hip-hop, acrobatics, and contemporary are available. At DSOD, we believe that dance education should include self-confidence, poise, and discipline lessons. Defined dance elements must be learned in a happy and supportive atmosphere from which all students benefit. I stress to my students that you can be serious and have fun at the same time, and with this mindset, DSOD has produced many successful alumni. This includes professional cheerleaders for the NFL, NBA, and MLS; Walt Disney World Dancers; cruise ship performers; Broadway performers; and Radio City Rockettes.icing on the cake is that our self-esteem policies have helped numerous students and parents achieve their goals throughout their life. We attend the best dance conferences and conventions in order to stay current with our curriculum. The annual dance and Christmas recitals allow everyone to get their own time in the spotlight. This gives every child and adult the chance to perform in front of an audience. At DSOD, we want our students to feel like they are part of our dance family, and we ensure that each student is given the mindset of feeling like they are special.
