About this business

Anuvia Prevention & Recovery Center Anuvia’s roots date back to 1957 when North Carolina State, under a special law, had requested the ABC Boards of the state to provide financial assistance to support alcohol education and rehabilitation programs in their area. A forward-looking group of citizens recognized the need for an organization in Mecklenburg County specifically dedicated to raising awareness about and providing recovery services for alcoholism. Representatives from the Charlotte City Council and the Mecklenburg County ABC Board and the Home Service Program (Alcoholics Anonymous) established the Charlotte Council On Alcoholism. The Council rapidly became the primary resource for alcoholism prevention and advocacy in Charlotte. The Randolph Clinic was set up in 1967 by the ABC Board because of community demand for treatment for alcoholics and their families. The ABC Board completed a new building at 100 Billingsley Road in 1971. The new building allowed the clinic to move in and made it a community hub for self-help groups and substance abuse services (Community Organizing, Caldwel, and Zampella 44). In 1994, The Randolph Clinic and The Charlotte Council on Alcoholism merged, creating the Chemical Dependency Center. This merger was prompted by financial and operational considerations, with the aim of reducing the cost and complexity of using the center. This organization, which has continued to provide integrated alcohol treatment services, was renamed Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center at its 50th anniversary to highlight the efficacy and quality of all previous, current, and future services.
