ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

Footwear is my favorite piece of equipment for hikers and backpackers. In the backcountry, your feet will be your only (pun intended!) means of transport. Unfit hiking boots will cause blisters and can be dangerous. Supportive footwear will prevent an unpleasant sprain. The wrong pair of boots can lead to foot pain, which can cause knee, back, and joint pain. If you want to walk into camp with a spring in your step at the end of a day, choose boots that are supportive. However, let's start with socks. The socks closest to your feet affect how well your boots function and fit. Gear recommends a blend of merino and wool socks. The fiber wool is amazing. It's naturally antimicrobial and anti-odor. And it keeps you warm while you want to, or cool when you don't. Your feet produce approximately a cup per day of sweat. Merino wool socks can help prevent this. Because of the approximately 250,000 glands in your feet, it's easy to confuse socks with hydration. Wool socks can help to wick away moisture from the feet. This will keep them from feeling dry and causing blisters. Merino wool socks are known to be soft, and you don't need to worry about anything but comfort. So choose a style that is slightly more elevated than your hiking boots to reduce the chance of rubbing on your ankle. We have choices for both winter and summer. You will never go back to cotton socks once you have chosen a pair that you find comfortable. Now, you are ready to choose your ideal pair of shoes!
